'Things In Our Hands'

Working in collaboration since 2000, Anetta Mona Chişa and Lucia Tkacova employ a variety of media including video, drawing and sculpture, performance, language and game tactics in their acts.
At the heart of their alliance lies their quest to find a means of reconciling the political with the aesthetic validity of art. Looking for new ways of resistance and of stimulating social change without diminishing the aesthetic power of art, they see their practice as a homeopathic process which should have a transformative effect, a colloidal process with re-forming consequences on the world.
They like to interlink all kind of practices and thus to destabilize the historical, scientific and philosophical beliefs of our society.
The presentation focused on their working process and the projects which have at their core the idea of transformation involving complex undertakings of converting different value systems into (each) other. Gold, money, as well as words and books, were presented as alchemical agents that carry the ability to change, modify and alter substances, people and their ideas.
Anetta Mona Chişa was born in Romania and currently lives and works in Prague. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and was the curator of the Synagoge - Centre for Contemporary Arts in Trnava in the years 2001 to 2002. Between 2002 and 2011 she worked as an assistant teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the New Media department. Currently she is a guest professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
